SUMMER FESTIVAL RECAP

With just a few festivals under our belt, there is already lots to report, what with Jenn Grant meeting the Royals (as reported above, they are both very fancy, and apparently quite fits in the athletic sense, not the British, “whoa that bird is FIT” sense), Sarah McLachlan joining the White Falcon’s set at the Burlington Sound of Music festival (although we do wish Sarah had worn shredded, acid washed jeans to match with the White Falcon’s rockin’ intensity), and Shout Out Out Out Out proving that they can still pull off that whole “youthful zest” thing by playing the Boonstock Festival in Gibbons, AB with a 3 AM set time!!

The summer is still young, however, and there is much, much more festival action coming up. Since Trampled by Turtles’ release of Palomino on May 10, 2011, the black-and-bluegrass quintet logged a sold-out CD Release Show in Vancouver and will soon be on stages at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Ottawa Blues Fest, all of which adds up to a decidedly non-shabby way to introduce themselves to us friendly Canadians. Also this coming weekend in Winnipeg, watch for Melissa McClelland, who in addition to playing her own mainstage concert set (we’re hoping for hella pyrotechnics), will be joining Blue Rodeo for their live presentation of the album, “Five Days in July”, which may actually take 5 days, so bring a tent, saltines, and some bottled water.

Across the Lakes, we have the Beauties and Amelia Curran both performing at the Mariposa Folk Festival. We’ll all be there, working on our suntans and drinking from our environmentally friendly cups (made from empty poutine containers salvaged from under my car seat). We hope to see you out there, too… check out the Six Shooter Records + Management festival schedule this summer, and start planning your roadtrips:
